Birthday Depression? Or a resurrection to something new?

For several weeks leading up to my 35th birthday yesterday, I suffered a great deal of emotional stress. I was dealing with loss, grief from that loss, loss of excitement for life generally, and a feeling that I needed a new way. A new path.

A new, new.

I began to dump things, shed layers of myself, and question everything all over again. Without sugarcoating it, it was mentally exhausting.

As my birthday approached even closer, I cried some more. Tissues were always handy and my journal was a trusted friend.

I decided I wasn’t going to be a mental wreck for my 35th. It was up to me to create excitement if I wanted it.

I also decided that I needed to leave my house. As a self-proclaimed home buddy, I spend all my time at home, only going out when I absolutely need to and mostly only for groceries.

So yesterday I packed a bag and got on a two-hour road trip into the mountains.

It was the best choice.

I booked a nice cabin in the woods and submerged myself in the heart of nature. All around me is nothing but trees, an endless display of nature at its finest as far as your eyes can see. After being in the heart of Accra for so long, this was the perfect getaway.

I said to myself and to God, “I have come here to find answers and I’m not leaving without it.”

All night last night, I begged and prayed for a visitation from Spirit, for a word or a clue. And sure enough, my Spirit did not disappoint.

Here’s what I received.

The question that answers evarything

Last night, as the hours of my birthday came drawing to a close, I lay in bed and gave myself up to meditation.

“Talk to me, talk to me,” I kept on saying to the darkness.

The trees rustled against the winds outside and the night sounds created the perfect music. I leaned into the guidance of my heart, waiting, expecting, patient for an answer to come in.

An hour or so into my meditation, the answer I needed came in the form of a question.

“What is the highest expression of Love through my Soul?”

When the question first dropped into my heart, I felt like I immediately knew what the answer was.

“What is the highest expression of Love through my Soul?”

Yes. It is deep. Very deep.

I meditated on this question through the night and subconsciously kept on asking this as I slept.

Instead of, “What’s my purpose?

What is the meaning of my life?

What do I do with my life? this question pushes you further into the depths of who you truly are. Into the core of what makes you, you.

There was no denying the validity of the answer that came up for me. I instinctively knew what it was and it almost brought me to tears.

“What is the highest expression of Love through my Soul?”

If you accept that ALL is God, and God is Love, and everyone is a tiny expression of God manifested on Earth, then this question could also be - “What is the highest expression of God through my Soul?”

This question forced me to get past the ‘How do I make money,’ question, and the ‘What do I want to do with my life’ dilemma.

It reminds me that I’m only a vessel, an Earthly vehicle through which Love is expressed. And if Love is why we are here then which of my many expressions, or the combination of them, helps me push forth more Love into the Earth?

“What is the highest expression of Love through my Soul?”

Ask yourself this throughout today and see what comes up for you. For many of you, you will receive the answer almost instantaneously, because you already know.

I believe it will change the way you see yourself and the way you perceive your work in this lifetime.
